Harpsichordia Scott Ross Harpsichord Documentary Bruce Burchmore

Bruce Burchmore writer, producer, director

Bruce Burchmore developed an enduring fascination of the harpsichord repertoire as a graduate student in musicology and early plucked strings performance. His main interest was the 17th- and early 18th-century French repertoires for lute, theorbo and Baroque guitar, and quickly found that a strong knowledge of the contemporary harpsichord schools augmented his expertise in French Baroque music in general. He has several published articles in the New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians (2nd. ed.), and is in the process of finalizing a study of the Saizenay manuscripts for solo lute and theorbo, accompanied by a complete modern edition with critical apparatus.

Lysiane Boulva decided she had to play harpsichord as a 9-year-old, when she visited the Exhibition Hall during the Bruges International Harpsichord Competition. Her studies brought her from the small city of Rimouski, in the province of Québec, to the early music Mecca that is the Netherlands. It is there that she began specializing in French music of the 18th century, an interest she pursued while completing her doctoral degree in Toronto. Aside from performing, she is particularly interested in the maintenance of harpsichords.
